Fairday 1: Soggy and Foggy

I escaped work around 1:30, and off to the fair I went.

Sure, I knew it was raining, but it was the first day of the fair! Not to mention, Ryan Shupe and the Rubberband was performing at the Leinie Lodge, the free stage across from the Food Building. And the Pronto Pups were calling my name. And the Bull Bites.

I brought along my rain jacket, but most of the time the rain wasn’t much of a bother, just a slow drizzle. I worked my way around the Food Building, sampling a bunch of old favorites while I waited for the show @ 4:30.

The Ryan Shupe and the Rubberband performance was excellent. Reminded me of the old Barenaked Ladies shows…they honestly looked like they were having fun, performing rather than just playing. I should have known it would be a good show when the rain/drizzle stopped 1 minute before showtime and didn’t return the remainder of the day.

Otherwise, the day consisted of much food grazing, booth viewing, everything I wanted out of it. Sat down for a food chopper presentation, watched a robot combat demonstration, took my time talking to booth workers. Speaking of booth workers, I spent a good 5 minutes or so (don’t worry, no one was waiting) talking with the Information booth workers. I’ve often considered taking the 12 days off and working at the Information booths located around the fairgrounds - I get asked for directions from passersby anyway (happened 4 times today) figure I might as well get paid for it.

No new foods today…I thought I’d save those for a time when I can experience them with others. Which should be Saturday…and then again on Sunday…then Monday. Good thing I got the reduced-price tickets!
